Humans of Chestnut – Rachael Stock

One of our favorite friendly faces serving you dinner at Chestnut is Rachael Stock! We’re so excited to have her as our July Humans of Chestnut. We got to find out so much about her, and now get to share this with you! Give her a follow on Instagram @_myeskimo_

How long have you worked for Chestnut & what’s your role?

This will be my fifth year working at Chestnut and I’m a server.

What is your favorite dish, dessert or drink you’ve had at Chestnut?

My favorite dish is easily the Shrimp and Grits. It’s spicy, smoky, rich, and cheesy. My favorite dessert is from years ago and it was the lemon meringue sundae. My favorite drink is one of our non-alcoholic options. We carry an elixir called The Pathfinder. It’s absolutely delicious as an “old-fashioned.”

Weirdest request from a guest?

I’ve had a guest pay me $50 cash to eat their dessert in front of them.

Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met?

I haven’t waited on anyone famous just yet. I also haven’t met anyone in general that’s crazy famous. My husband was a child actor so I always just say him.

What is your biggest passion outside of work?

I am a teacher and student of yoga and have a boundless amount of gratitude for the practice. I consider it a moving meditation each time I step foot on my mat. I found yoga during one of the most difficult times of my life, and once I discovered the benefits it has on the body and the mind I was hooked. I highly recommend the art to everyone.

Where in town would you recommend folks visit?

If you are a yoga fanatic like me I highly recommend Hot Yoga Asheville! Also, I own a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym called The Speakeasy. If you’re a fan of mixed martial arts I suggest checking us out!

What’s the strangest food you’ve ever eaten & enjoyed?

I’m a pretty adventurous eater and honestly there’s rarely a food I come across and don’t enjoy. But just for some nostalgia, I grew up eating a lot of chicken liver patè and gefilte fish. I still very much enjoy those things when I do come across them.

If you could travel anywhere in the world for a food experience, where would you go and what would you want to try

I would love to travel to Thailand and dive into all of their authentic cuisine. The blend of flavors ranging from salty to sweet to bitter to sour just really pleases my palate. I would indulge in fresh fish and all of the local fruit in sight.

Food handcrafted with care.

We take pride in sourcing products from local growers, ranchers, cheese makers, and dairies. Everything is made in house - from hand-cut french fries to ice cream from scratch, to pickled local veggies.
