November Humans of Chestnut: Kyrie Cordner

Kyrie Cordner has been part of the Chestnut family for over a year now! They are an essential front of house player and now is one of our bar backs helping make your handcrafted cocktails! Let’s find out more about about our November Human of Chestnut!

How long have you worked for Chestnut & what’s your current role?

It’s wild to me that already a year has passed by since Chestnut hired me! I remember trying out as a host at first, but I was so nervous about being the first face to see at the front door. I found my groove a lot better with helping servers as a runner and sometimes bussing tables. I’ve been coming out of my shell a lot better as bar back recently too!

What is your favorite meal & cocktail you’ve had at Chestnut?

I can’t remember what it’s called, but I really miss pastry chef Mallory’s chocolate and olive oil cake with the coconut sorbet. For cocktails? It’s a “Thai” between the Half Moon Party and Golden Calf, but I’m just biased for coconut milk, ha!

What is your biggest passion outside of work?

I’ve always been glued to the computer ever since I could get my hands on one! There’s just so much to see and learn all at once. I would dive into the internet and become an A.I. if I could. Right now I’m settling for finding the weirdest, coolest electronic music.

Where in Asheville would you recommend our guests visit?

I highly recommend Sierra Nevada for a brewery and an experience! I was gifted a tour there once and it was like winning a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s factory. Obviously I think Chestnut is a fantastic restaurant! Though, if I have to pick somewhere else, Plant on Merrimon is awesome if you’re strictly vegan.

If you could travel anywhere in the world for a food experience, where would you go and what would you want to try?

I’d like to go to Laos for a street food experience! I mostly wanna try the khao poon there and khao lod song looks like a yummy dessert too!

Food handcrafted with care.

We take pride in sourcing products from local growers, ranchers, cheese makers, and dairies. Everything is made in house - from hand-cut french fries to ice cream from scratch, to pickled local veggies.
