For those of you who aren’t aware, we have vegan cheese production happening below your feet at Chestnut, owned and operated by Gwendolyn Dare. We wanted to close out Women’s History Month with something different, and this feature was a no-brainer for us.

She answered a few questions after our photo session:
What keeps you going despite everything that’s going on in the world?
My friend group (near and far), my dog, walkable West Asheville, and Spotify.
What do you look forward to most about the “return to normal” or new normal following COVID-19?
TRAVEL. My philosophy is to work hard in order to travel somewhere that makes me feel new. Can’t wait to feel that again.
Can you talk a little about what you’re most passionate about outside of work?
I am passionate about helping things grow. I’ve got a green thumb, but also, I’m fairly intent on self-discovery and growth. I’ve heard my advice helps people grow too.
Are you an Ashevillle native, or did you move here?
I moved to Asheville in 2011 to finish my Biology degree at UNCA. I’d never even visited before. Young me and my bold moves put me right where I needed to be.
Gwendolyn’s website is here, and we know she’d appreciate the love. Vegan cheese is becoming more and more viable and interesting for the food scene every year, and we can’t wait to see where this business goes.
