If you’ve peeked into our kitchen during the past 6 years, you’ve probably seen Chef Erick Garica working hard to put out incredible hand crafted food. He has worked his way up and is now regarded as a leader in our kitchen!
How long have you worked for Chestnut and what’s your role?
I have worked at Chestnut for about 6 years now. My role is Lead Line Cook and I have embraced the many challenges that this position brings. For example, defining my role as a leader and learning new leadership styles from my superiors.
What is your favorite meal you’ve had at Chestnut?
My favorite meal would have to be the creamy mushroom farro risotto. However, it does not come with a protein so I always like to add a grilled chicken breast!
What got you started as a chef?
The flavors of my culture have always been enticing to me through my mothers cooking. But also the nutritional side of food helped make me interested in becoming a chef.
What is your biggest passion outside of work?
I would have to say any form of working out, but if I had to narrow it down, it would be playing soccer.
Where in town would you recommend folks visit?
Red Ginger and Wild Ginger have always been my favorite restaurants in Asheville because I’ve been obsessed with Asian cuisine for some time now.
If you could travel anywhere in the world for a food experience, where would you go and what would you want to try?
Thailand! They have such a rich culture and I would love to try all the Thai curries which are packed full of flavor!
